Global training delivery

Over the past 20 years we’ve delivered training, classroom and virtual, in some 60 countries, in at least 12 languages, using our own global network of around 150 trusted facilitators, coaches, and subject-matter experts.

GLOBAL TRAINING DELIVERY – OUR APPROACH

Programmes are generally designed here in the UK, usually by one of our practice leads or by one of our specialist learning design consultants. Sometimes the programmes are co-designed with our clients. And sometimes the client has a programme already designed which they simply want us to deliver.

Whoever takes the lead in designing the programme then takes each trainer through it before it is delivered in either English or the local language as required. Sometimes we’ll run an internal train-the-trainer session, sometimes the client will get involved in this too, and sometimes we’ll go through a formal pilot phase – it all depends on the individual client’s requirements. The client’s local stakeholders as well as our local facilitators might also have an input into the customisation of the programme for local differences. The whole process is project managed from here in the UK.

Most clients already have a learning management system so they tend to look after the enrolment side of things themselves, leaving us to focus on content and delivery; but every project and every client is different, so we’re always happy to be flexible over roles and responsibilities.

GLOBAL TRAINING DELIVERY – OUR TEAM

We have rigorous selection criteria for our trainers / facilitators / coaches and we encourage clients to become part of the process by getting someone in the relevant local office to talk with each new facilitator before they are engaged to deliver a programme for the first time. Evaluation results are shared between us, the client and the facilitator to enable continuous performance improvement on all sides.

Facilitators are selected for training experience and capability, sector and cultural background, language capability and, of course, subject matter qualifications, knowledge and experience. Most of our facilitators specialise in leadership, management and personal effectiveness. Some of them work at Board level, many of them have experience of front-line training, some of them also work as qualified coaches and some of them have particular specialisms from other disciplines.

As to countries and languages, we currently have more than 140 associate trainers in more than 60 countries around the world. Sample profiles for the global delivery team are shown here, with coaches here. Sessions can be delivered in either English or more than 30 local languages as required.

GLOBAL TRAINING DELIVERY – MINI CASE STUDIES

These mini case studies have been selected to show the range of our global training delivery experience, from multi-lingual roll-outs of some of our tried-and-tested development programmes, to co-design and delivery of bespoke interventions, some of them involving the use of actors and even the scripting, acting and on-site filming of video clips to use in performance management workshops.

Case study 1 – a food company

This leading European food company had been going through a major transformation programme, integrating some very big acquisitions and embedding a common set of values across the rapidly growing organisation.

As one would expect in such circumstances, they invested heavily in their people and commissioned us to deliver our tried-and-tested ‘Inspiring Leader’ and ‘Management Development’ programmes to their leaders and managers across the UK and Europe.

Over a five-year period, we delivered:

  • 9 ‘outings’ of the 8-day Leadership programme in the UK, for a mixed UK/European audience
  • 6 outings of the 8-day Management programme in the UK
  • 30 outings of the 8-day Management programme around Europe, in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish

 

The workshops, which got great feedback, were complemented with one-to-one coaching sessions. These proved so popular that they led to a growth in demand for coaching across the organisation, to which end we supported them with additional ‘Coaching skills for line managers’ training. These were delivered as a series of six bite-sized sessions, some virtual, some face-to-face, in Dutch, English, French, and German.

Case study 3 – global IT

This leading specialist in air transport communications and information technology has more than 4,500 people in over 135 countries at 300+ sites worldwide. Their staff come from some 140 nationalities and speak 60 different languages.

E-learning wasn’t doing it for them, so they came to us instead, to put a human connection back into their L&D activities.

Our first project was ‘a huge success’, said their Director of Talent & Organisational Capability, who also thanked us for our ‘above and beyond’ approach. We’ve now done a number of projects for them, including:

  • Co-design and delivery, at some 25 global locations by a team of more than a dozen Maximum Performance facilitators, of a half-day face-to-face workshop on the new corporate values
  • Co-design and delivery, again at 25 locations using a dozen or so local trainers, of a one-day face-to-face workshop for managers on performance management, with a half-day workshop for staff
  • Co-design and delivery across all time zones of a series of virtual sessions for managers on objective-setting, performance and reward
  • Design and delivery across all time zones of a series of virtual workshops and group coaching sessions for ‘location leaders’ focused on specific competencies for the role, eg, change management, communication and presence, collaboration and relationships
  • Co-design and delivery in English at eight different global locations of a recurring series of one-day face-to-face workshops on topics such as:
  • Influencing and negotiating
  • Change and resilience
  • Managing working relationships
  • Presence and communication
  • Managing your time

 

As well as virtual sessions across all time zones, we’ve also run face-to-face workshops for this client in: Australia • Belgium • Brazil • Canada • Czech Republic • Denmark • Dubai • France • Germany • India • Ireland • Jordan • Netherlands • Russia • Singapore • Switzerland • UAE • UK • USA.

Case study 5 – beauty products

A highly acquisitive company with challenging targets, this global leader in the beauty products industry felt the need to deepen some of their management capabilities, especially around coaching. They embarked on a capability build across their European businesses in this regard, recruiting us to run numerous outings of:

  • a coaching qualification programme for some of their HR / L&D team
  • a two-day coaching skills for line managers programme (run as days two and three of their introduction to management programme)
  • and a train-the-trainer version of the latter as well.

 

We then ran these highly successful programmes in English and local languages for them in other regions as well, eventually delivering face-to-face workshops in Brazil, China, Dubai, France, Greece, Holland, India, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.

Case study 2 – global FMCG

We’d been working with this client for some years when they decided to outsource their global HR function, including L&D. As a long-standing training provider for them in the UK, we were invited to tender for delivery of specific training workshops across the globe. They received some 1,500 tenders for this work from training providers around the world. Following a rigorous selection procedure, they awarded us one of about a dozen contracts to develop and deliver a range of 1- and 2-day workshops:

  • Career and development planning
  • Coaching
  • Facilitation skills
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Influencing skills
  • Time and priority management

 

We won the work on the basis of four key criteria:

  • Capability to deliver on a global scale
  • High quality control
  • Consistency of delivery
  • High calibre design

 

We delivered the programmes face-to-face, using our network of local trainers, in more than 50 countries around the world, in more than a dozen different languages.

Case study 4 – a ratings agency

This client has asked for quite a range of different interventions over the years. We were recruited initially to deliver a range of face-to-face workshops across the European region (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Madrid and Moscow), on topics such as:

  • Communication skills
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Effective time management

 

Their London office then asked us for a series of bite-sized sessions on aspects of health and well-being, eg:

  • Alcohol Consumption
  • Eat-Sleep-Work-Repeat
  • Exercise & fitness
  • Quick hacks for re-energising yourself
  • Quit Smoking
  • Resilience
  • Success Mindset
  • Try to Triumph

 

Other ad hoc events have included:

  • A facilitated session for a global graphic design team
  • A facilitation skills workshop for HR business partners
  • A ‘Personal branding’ workshop
  • A train-the-trainer programme for the HR team
Case study 6 – insurance

This global insurance and reinsurance company recognised the need to strengthen leadership and management capability across the organisation. They had never had a structured development programme before and were encouraged to use us by their new HR project manager, who had been impressed by what we had done at their previous company, a reinsurance business based in London and Bermuda.

The requirement here was for a leadership programme, built around the organisation’s newly articulated competency framework of behaviours and principles. There were six virtual modules, with digital learning materials accessible via our own website, delivered to seven cohorts by our team of UK and local facilitators.

This ran alongside a series of ten ‘learning mindsets’ programmes for all staff, delivered virtually

Then came the bespoke management programme: a 360 with 1-1 feedback, a 2-day face-to-face launch event in London, delivery of nine virtual modules across two time zones, interspersed with 1-1 coaching sessions throughout the programme, three group learning reviews, and a 2-day face-to-face graduation event in Canada. The programme emphasises self-directed learning, supported by digital learning materials on Padlet, with learning buddies, 1-1 coaching, self-managed action learning sets, and 1-1s with line managers. We’re part way through the second cohort now and the feedback’s highly positive.
